How we test faulty items

What happens when I return an item for testing/replacement?

Initial checks

  • When we receive the returned item(s) we first check the outer packing. If this is inadequate or damaged it is photographed.
  • The returned package is opened and the returned item(s) is/are photographed.
  • Where applicable the item is passed to our technical department for further inspection.

Technical checks

  • We check the returned item for physical damage and where present the damage is photographed in detail.
  • We check the item for damage from incorrect fitting, misuse, or faulty external components/connections.
  • Components that reach this stage are then tested for the reported fault.
  • A report detailing the results of testing is compiled. Based on this report the item will either be exchanged/repaired or the customer will be informed of the reason for refusing to exchange/repair the item.
  • If an item is found not to be faulty it is then, where applicable, tested for electrical safety.
  • Items that prove to be faulty are either repaired or packaged for return to the supplier/manufacturer. In the latter case, an order will be created by our technical department instructing sales to supply a replacement from stock. If the item is not in stock it will be specially ordered and despatched as soon as stock becomes available.
  • If we are unable to despatch a replacement within 28 days of authorisation we can optionally refund the original purchase price. In this case, ownership of the returned item passes to us once the refund is made.

Items that do not qualify for replacement

  • The customer is informed of our findings by means of a summary of the test report detailing the reason for the failure.
  • Items that do not qualify for replacement can be optionally destroyed or returned to the customer. These items will only be returned upon payment of £5.99 to cover the cost of packaging and insured delivery.
  • Where an item is found not to be faulty we reserve the right to charge for the time and resources used during the test procedure. These items will only be returned upon an additional payment of £5.99 to cover the cost of packaging and insured delivery.
  • Once we have informed the customer of the status of the returned item we will provide secure storage for the item for up to 10 business days.
  • Any items remaining in secure storage after ten business days will incur a storage charge of £1 inc. VAT per day (this includes public holidays and weekends). The customer can release the item from storage by paying the outstanding storage charges and the optional delivery charge if the item is to be returned.
  • Where an item is still in chargeable storage and the storage bill is equal or greater than the current resale value of the item, it will be sold to recover the outstanding charges. If the item is not in resaleable condition we reserve the right to dispose of it at scrap value (this value will not exceed the price of the outstanding storage bill)
